The route starts in West Yellowstone at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Center and follows Yellowstone Avenue to the gate of Yellowstone National Park. Once through the gate, the route follows the main road as it winds along the Madison River. At Madison Junction, the route turns right, crosses the Gibbon River and climbs up what locals call the "Firehole Hill" and into Firehole Canyon. This is the only significant climb of the entire ride, along the narrow, one-way road (buses and RVs are prohibited on this route). Once you get to the top, you follow the main road as it winds along the Firehole River and past several of Yellowstone's most famous thermal areas until you reach Old Faithful. At Old Faithful, take the time to see an eruption and walk around the geyser basin. To get back to West Yellowstone, follow most of the same route, but divert onto the Firehole Lake Drive.  This one-way road is also closed to RVs and buses.  Ride along the headwaters of the Firehole River and see some fantastic thermal features.  After the Firehole Lake Drive, the route re-joins the main road and follow it back to West Yellowstone.
