Map
The route starts in West Yellowstone at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Center and follows Yellowstone Avenue to the gate of Yellowstone National Park. Once through the gate, the route follows the main road as it winds along the Madison River. At Madison Junction, the route turns right, crosses the Gibbon River and climbs up what locals call the "Firehole Hill". This is the only significant climb of the entire ride, roughly 4% grade for less than two miles. Once you get to the top, you follow the main road as it winds along the Firehole River and past several of Yellowstone's most famous thermal areas until you reach Old Faithful. At Old Faithful, take the time to see an eruption and walk around the geyser basin. To get back to West Yellowstone, simply follow the same route in reverse.
