Online Registration for Spring Cycle Tour

The 11th Annual Spring Cycle Tour is scheduled for May 10, 2008. The tour - around what locals call “the block” - is 64 miles long. It's a challenging early season ride but the scenery is gorgeous and we do our best to make sure that everyone has an enjoyable day. As with our Fall Cycle Tour, a portion of the proceeds from the Spring Cycle Tour will be donated to the Yellowstone Park Foundation. The 2007 Spring Cycle Tour generated $750 for the Foundation.

The route starts in West Yellowstone at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Center and follows Highway 20 west over Targhee Pass and into Idaho, turns right on Highway 87 and winds along the north shore of Henry’s Lake and over Raynold’s Pass back into Montana. Highway 87 crosses the Madison River and then T’s with Highway 287. The route turns right here and winds along the Madison, Quake Lake and Hebgen Lake before it turns right again on Highway 191. From this point it’s a relatively short 8 miles back into West Yellowstone.

Check in and "day of" registration for the Spring Cycle Tour will take place from 7:30 to 8:45 AM at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Center located at 30 Yellowstone Avenue across the street from Free Heel and Wheel. The ride will start at 9:00 AM.

There are 5 feed stations along the Spring Cycle Tour route. The first is at the junction of Highways 20 and 87, the second is at the top of Raynold’s Pass, the third is at the Quake Lake Visitor’s Center, the fourth is at the Longhorn Saloon deck and the fifth is at the junction of Highways 287 and 191.

For those of you concerned about your ability to ride the entire 64 miles, you need not worry. The route is patrolled by 2 or 3 sag wagons (vans with trailers) that, once full, can give you a lift back to West Yellowstone. Two mechanics, Les from Yellowstone Bicycle and Melissa from Free Heel and Wheel, also patrol the route to help with repairs and flat tires.

An International Migratory Bird Day is planned for Sunday May 11.  This event is sponsored by Yellowstone National Park and the Grizzly Discovery Center.  Activities planned include a bird watching tour of the Madison River, games and crafts at the GDC, and four hour-long bird presentations.  Please call 307-344-2754 for more details.
